Federal Appeals Court Rules Texas Can Keep Border Buoys in Rio Grande Amid Legal Challenge
SUMMARY: A federal appeals court has granted a stay, allowing Texas’ floating barrier on a section of the Rio Grande to remain in place for now. This comes after a judge ruled that the buoys were a threat to the safety of migrants and US-Mexico relations. The 5th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals put on hold a ruling that would have required Texas to move the barrier. The Texas border city of Eagle Pass, where the barrier is located, has seen a significant number of migrant crossings this fiscal year. The Biden administration is challenging Texas’ border policies in court.
