SUMMARY: President Lyndon B. Johnson signed the Civil Rights Act on July 2, 1964. To commemorate its 60th anniversary, President Joe Biden visited the LBJ Presidential Library in Austin, reflecting on the Act's significance. The Act, alongside the Voting Rights Act and Fair Housing Act, has promoted fairness and justice in the U.S. However, Biden emphasized that current Supreme Court rulings, restrictive voting laws, and the overturning of Roe v. Wade threaten these gains. He advocated for presidential accountability, Supreme Court term limits, and a stronger ethics code. Biden's visit, rescheduled after an attempt on former President Trump's life, also included him ending his reelection campaign and endorsing VP Kamala Harris.

www.youtube.com – FOX 4 Dallas-Fort Worth – 2024-07-29 21:24:10

SUMMARY: A Dallas County woman almost fell for a jury duty scam involving a caller pretending to be a sheriff's deputy. The caller claimed she needed to settle a legal matter due to missing jury duty. Initially, the woman believed the message and called back. Suspicious, she asked for the caller's badge number, which led her to hang up and contact the real sheriff's office. The sheriff's office confirmed it was a scam, warning that they never request money over the phone or through gift cards. If such calls are received, hang up and call the jury services line directly for confirmation.

The woman says she received a call from someone claiming to be a Dallas County deputy saying she could be arrested for missing jury duty. They even provided a real badge number.
