SUMMARY: The Williamson County District Attorney's office is asking for the public's help in finding Augustine Dafe Ikolo, a fugitive who did not attend his scheduled sentencing hearing for sexual assault. He was found guilty in November and faced up to 20 years in prison and a $10,000 fine. Despite prosecutors' request to detain him without bond, a retired visiting judge released him on a $75,000 bond. Ikolo, a Nigerian citizen, has a prior federal conviction for falsifying visas and other identifying information. The DA believes he is a dangerous predator and is asking for any information about him to be reported anonymously to Williamson County Crime Stoppers.

How Austin enforces its fireworks ordinance

Published

on

www.kxan.com – Julianna Russ – 2024-07-04 09:00:00

SUMMARY: Since Austin adopted its fireworks ordinance, the storage, use, and handling of fireworks within city limits became illegal. Initially, the Austin Fire Department (AFD) managed compliance, deploying engine and truck companies to reported violations. However, this approach burdened the emergency response system and 911 dispatchers. In the late 90s, the city shifted to a 311 hotline for reporting non-emergency violations, transitioning responsibility to the Austin Police Department (APD). Despite this change, AFD maintains a street presence, and the Fire Marshal's Office continues to issue citations and prosecute those responsible for fires caused by fireworks.
