Fort Worth Police Asking Residents, Business Owners to Join Community Camera Program

SUMMARY: Since Austin adopted its fireworks ordinance, the storage, use, and handling of fireworks within city limits became illegal. Initially, the Austin Fire Department (AFD) managed compliance, deploying engine and truck companies to reported violations. However, this approach burdened the emergency response system and 911 dispatchers. In the late 90s, the city shifted to a 311 hotline for reporting non-emergency violations, transitioning responsibility to the Austin Police Department (APD). Despite this change, AFD maintains a street presence, and the Fire Marshal's Office continues to issue citations and prosecute those responsible for fires caused by fireworks.

How to get a fireworks permit in Austin, other things to know

SUMMARY: In Austin, using or selling fireworks is illegal without a permit from AFD Special Events, costing $200. Permits for aerial displays require a 30-day notice, while flame acts need 14 days. Non-emergency numbers should be used to report illegal fireworks. Allowed without a permit are Snake, Glow Worms, Smoke Devices, Wire Sparklers, and Trick Noisemakers.
