SUMMARY: The Perseid meteor shower, one of the year's best, runs from July 17 to August 24, peaking on August 11-12 with up to 100 meteors per hour visible. Originating from the constellation Perseus, these “swift and bright” meteors are easy to spot. Best viewed from the Northern Hemisphere during pre-dawn hours, it's recommended to avoid city lights. Other July showers include the Delta Aquariids, peaking on July 30 with 15-20 meteors per hour, and the Alpha Capricornids, with 2-5 per hour peaking on July 31. Meteor showers occur when Earth passes through a comet's tail, with the Perseids stemming from the Swift-Tuttle Comet.
