Dallas nonprofit loses thousands of pounds of meat meant to feed homeless during power outages
SUMMARY: North Texans have endured days without power, leading to significant food losses, particularly for nonprofits like Our Calling, which lost thousands of pounds of meat intended for feeding the homeless. More than 50,000 Oncor customers faced a fourth day without electricity. Although power was restored, Our Calling's recovery continues as they strive to care for people in difficult situations. The organization adapted by using generators to cook thawed food, serving meals to up to 500 people daily while visiting about 4,000 locations countywide. The recent storm, which uprooted trees and tents, highlights the urgent need for community support and better solutions for homelessness.
Our Calling lost thousands of pounds of meat that would have helped feed hungry people without homes. While the power is now back at the nonprofit, the recovery is far from over.

Ask Amy: Can I get money back for internet services that are not working right now?
SUMMARY: Following Hurricane Barrel, many homes and businesses have had power restored, but internet outages persist. AT&T and Xfinity/Comcast customer service is currently difficult to reach, and when contact is made, answers are limited. Comcast reports 975,000 customers lost service post-hurricane, mostly due to power issues, with 355,000 restored and 620,000 still out. Damaged electric lines often imply damaged cable/fiber lines. Customers without service can request credits once restored. AT&T is less specific but working on restoration and has opened mobile connectivity centers for free Wi-Fi. Verizon offers free call, data, and texting for affected areas from July 8-17.
As power is restored to homes and businesses across our area many of you say you still don’t have internet. AT&T and Comcast Xfinity customer service are difficult to reach and when you do get a human on the phone, they don’t have any answers.
