Family in Dripping Springs gets brand-new home at no cost thanks to non-profit | FOX 7 Austin
SUMMARY: Hundreds of volunteers rallied to build a free new home for the Salazar family in Dripping Springs, selected by nonprofit Hometown Missions due to the poor condition of their previous residence. The six-week project involved nearly 200 volunteers who replaced the family's unsafe, 40-year-old home with a fully furnished, air-conditioned, three-bedroom house. Valued at approximately $175,000, the construction cost was significantly offset by donations, allowing surplus funds to support future projects. The Salazar family, who had waited over two years for approval, expressed immense gratitude and emotion for their new home. Hometown Missions has been partnering with community churches and volunteers since 2021.

Hurricane Beryl: Flooding in Houston
SUMMARY: Hurricane Barrel has caused severe damage in Southeast Texas, leading to one death north of Houston due to a fallen tree. The storm, which hit as a Category 1 hurricane near Matagorda Beach early this morning, has resulted in flash flooding, lightning, and wind gusts between 60-80 mph in Houston. Over a million people are without power, and numerous flights have been canceled. The situation is dire with extensive tree and property damage, and the city essentially shut down. Hurricane Beryl tracker: Where the storm is headed
SUMMARY: A severe storm named Barrel is impacting areas near Houston with tornado warnings issued east of Liberty. Earlier, Galveston experienced a tornado and a 94 mph wind gust around Freeport. Although the storm's eye is beginning to fill in, it remains strong, moving north towards Houston's western suburbs. Unexpectedly, four days ago, no computer models predicted this path. Those models serve as guidance, not absolute truth. The storm is projected to track into East Texas and the Arklatex, avoiding our area but bringing significant rainfall, with 6-10 inches already near the coast and heavy rain extending to regions like Palestine and Red River County.
