Israel’s Netanyahu blames Biden for withholding weapons. US officials say that’s not the whole story
SUMMARY: U.S. and Israeli officials are addressing tensions over claims by Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu that the U.S. is withholding vital weapon shipments needed for Israel's offensive in Gaza. The White House denies the allegations. Despite Netanyahu's claims potentially straining U.S.-Israel relations, diplomatic efforts have mitigated the dispute. The U.S. ambassador assured Netanyahu that the shipments are en route, leading to a temporary resolution. A scheduled high-level meeting was canceled due to the dispute, though a Congressional delegation is now in Jerusalem to manage further disagreements privately. Israeli Defense Minister Yoav Gallant's visit to Washington will proceed as planned.
Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu on Tuesday claimed the United States is withholding weapons and implied this was slowing Israel's offensive in the southern Gaza city of Rafah, where fighting has exacerbated the already dire humanitarian situation for Palestinians.
