Why are scorpions invading more homes this summer?
SUMMARY: Scorpions are increasingly invading homes in Central Texas due to the hot, dry summer weather and a particularly wet spring. According to entomologist Alan Brown, the scorpions seek cooler environments, often entering homes. The rise in scorpion sightings is also attributed to storms that push them to the surface. There are 19 breeds of scorpions in Texas, with two commonly found in Central Texas, including the striped bark scorpion. To prevent scorpion entry, Brown suggests sealing cracks, replacing weather stripping, and trimming overhanging branches. If stung, seek medical attention if you experience severe allergic reactions like trouble breathing or numbness.

US Rep. Lloyd Doggett of Austin calls on President Biden to withdraw from 2024 race
SUMMARY: U.S. Rep. Lloyd Doggett, an Austin Democrat, has urged President Joe Biden to withdraw from the 2024 presidential race. Citing Biden's poor debate performance and declining poll numbers, Doggett, who is 77 and running for reelection, expressed gratitude for Biden's accomplishments but emphasized the need for new leadership. Drawing parallels to Lyndon Johnson's withdrawal, Doggett highlighted the importance of uniting the country through a democratic process. He acknowledged Biden's contributions, especially in overcoming Trump, but stressed that Biden should step aside to prevent a Trump victory and ensure the preservation of democracy. The White House has yet to comment.

Rudy Giuliani disbarred over ‘false and misleading’ statements on 2020 election
SUMMARY: Rudy Giuliani has been disbarred by the Appellate Division First Department in New York, a consequence of his false and misleading statements related to former President Donald Trump's 2020 reelection efforts. Giuliani claimed he believed his statements at the time, but the court was unconvinced, arguing he should have known better. The ruling emphasizes the seriousness of his misconduct and its contribution to national strife post-election. Giuliani and several Trump allies pleaded not guilty in Arizona for efforts to overturn the election results, and he agreed to cease election fraud allegations against two Georgia workers after losing a defamation case.
