Ultra-Orthodox protests turn violent in Jerusalem – NBC 5 Dallas-Fort Worth
SUMMARY: Thousands of ultra-Orthodox Jewish men protested violently in Jerusalem against a Supreme Court order mandating their military enlistment, a move that threatens Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu's coalition amid Israel's ongoing war in Gaza. The government's decision to draft ultra-Orthodox men has created significant unrest, with protesters throwing rocks and attacking an ultra-Orthodox Cabinet minister's car. Police struggled to control the crowd using water cannons and mounted officers. The ultra-Orthodox community argues that military service would destroy their traditional lifestyle. Their political parties, crucial to Netanyahu's coalition, could force new elections if they withdraw their support over this issue.
