SUMMARY: A Dallas police officer fatally shot 34-year-old Cody Watkins after he repeatedly refused to drop his knife, despite several minutes of commands and the use of less lethal force tactics. Body camera footage shows officers employing verbal commands, a taser, and a stinger to disarm Watkins, who lunged at them while holding the knife. Watkins, who had a criminal history dating back to 2011, was identified by police. Officers responded to a 911 call from a woman, who knew Watkins, reporting he was threatening her with a knife and machete. Both the Dallas County DA's office and the Dallas Police Special Investigations Unit are investigating the incident.
