Employee Spotlight – Gabby Dena, GIS Intern
SUMMARY: Gabby describes her typical day as an intern at the City of Galveston, where she updates features in the enterprise geo database and works on various mapping tasks. She emphasizes the value of learning practical skills in a real-world setting, as school knowledge doesn't always directly translate into the workplace. One of the most interesting aspects of her internship was discovering the historical and architectural richness of Galveston while researching maps and data. Gabby also mentions the importance of cartography and how it is approached as both a design and art form in her internship. She shares her background, hobbies, and involvement in volunteer organizations, and recommends the City of Galveston as an internship opportunity due to its diverse projects and supportive employees.
Today is Gabby's last day as a GIS Intern and she can't leave without her #employeespotlight!
Gabby received a B.S. in Geology and she is currently pursuing her M.S in Geographic Information Systems.
She did an amazing job during her internship! She assisted in GIS Day, updated our community GIS layers, and created seminars for our city staff training program. Gabby is detailed-oriented, grasping new concepts and processes quickly.
The City will miss her and wish her the best in her next adventure. The sky is the limit Gabby!
Meet this week's #employeespotlight, Gabrielle Dena, GIS Intern.
