Pres. Biden travels to Europe for NATO summit

SUMMARY: President Biden is in the UK to reaffirm ties with one of America's strongest allies and to discuss defending Ukraine against Russia's invasion. He defended his decision to send cluster bombs to Ukraine, a weapon that Britain opposes. Biden will then attend a NATO summit in Lithuania where he will try to rally international support for the war effort. He acknowledged that there is no unanimity in NATO about bringing Ukraine into the alliance at this time. Biden is under pressure to press NATO nations for stronger commitments. The US has contributed double the amount of money compared to all other NATO countries combined.

Biden met with PM Sunak and King Charles on Monday. The NATO summit in Lithuania will include ways to boost support for Ukraine in their war against Russia.

The latest update at 1:00 PM shows it remains a tropical system, but it’s projected to intensify into a Category 1 hurricane near the Texas coast, particularly around Corpus Christi and Victoria. A storm surge of 3 to 5 feet is expected along the coast, and a hurricane watch is in effect with potential winds of 75 to 120 mph.
