Large crowds expected on Galveston Beach Fourth of July weekend
SUMMARY: Visitors to Galveston Island should monitor water conditions, particularly during the Fourth of July due to Hurricane Beryl. Busy beach days are expected, and up to 500,000 visitors could be at risk. Peter Davis, Galveston Island Beach's Chief, emphasizes swimming near lifeguard towers and avoiding rip currents, especially near piers or jetties. He also cautions about strong tidal currents at the island's ends. With Beryl impacting water conditions, swimmers need to be vigilant about potential changes in waves and weather. Beachgoers should stay hydrated, wear appropriate clothing, seek shade, and watch for heat exhaustion. More information can be found on the Galveston Island Beach Patrol's website.
