US begins unloading seized Iranian oil from tanker just days after pressure from bipartisan group of lawmakers
SUMMARY: An oil tanker suspected of carrying Iranian oil that was seized off the coast of Texas has finally been offloaded. This came after a bipartisan group of lawmakers wrote a letter to the White House questioning the delay. The lawmakers expressed concerns about potential Iranian retaliation and urged the Biden administration to take action. The offloading of the tanker, called the Suez Rajan, had been delayed due to fears of Iranian threats. The delay was criticized by lawmakers who argued that the US should not be complacent in the face of such threats. The offloading process was described as a complicated matter requiring specific equipment. The US government emphasized that it has maintained strict enforcement of Iran-related sanctions.
