ATCEMS welcomes 13 new cadets in Texas Capitol graduation ceremony

SUMMARY: Cadet Class 0124 of the Austin-Travis County EMS will be sworn in at a ceremony at the Texas Capitol inside the Extension Auditorium. The class consists of 13 cadets, six clinical specialists, and seven medics. This graduation marks a significant milestone in their careers, according to ATCEMS Assistant Chief Heather Phillips. The ceremony will allow cadets' families and friends to participate in this special occasion, followed by a reception.

79-year-old dies after single-vehicle crash

SUMMARY: The Austin Police Department identified 79-year-old Gerald Farcus as the victim of a fatal single-vehicle crash on June 28 in south Austin. The accident occurred around 10 a.m. on the 1200 block of West Ben White Boulevard Service Road. Farcus was transported to a local hospital where he was later pronounced dead. This marks Austin's 37th fatal crash in 2024, resulting in 38 fatalities. Authorities are investigating the incident and urge anyone with information to contact APD's Vehicular Homicide unit at 512-974-8111 or submit tips anonymously via the Capital Area Crime Stoppers Program.
