Big city mayors want Federal help after Texas program brings thousands of migrants – NBC 5 Dallas-Fort Worth
SUMMARY: Big-city Democrat mayors meeting with President Biden's Administration asked for more resources to address the growing migrant crisis in the U.S. They expressed frustration with Texas Governor Greg Abbott's “Operation Lone Star,” which has transported thousands of migrants across the country. The mayors are calling for a nationwide resettlement program and a federal declaration of emergency. Texas taxpayers have put $11 billion towards the border security and migrant movement program. Despite asking for federal assistance, the mayors also criticized Texas Governor Abbott for his actions. The Biden Administration has offered additional resources and funding for border security and migrant support. The number of crossings has decreased, but mayors expect the surge to intensify in the near future.

How Austin enforces its fireworks ordinance
SUMMARY: Since Austin adopted its fireworks ordinance, the storage, use, and handling of fireworks within city limits became illegal. Initially, the Austin Fire Department (AFD) managed compliance, deploying engine and truck companies to reported violations. However, this approach burdened the emergency response system and 911 dispatchers. In the late 90s, the city shifted to a 311 hotline for reporting non-emergency violations, transitioning responsibility to the Austin Police Department (APD). Despite this change, AFD maintains a street presence, and the Fire Marshal's Office continues to issue citations and prosecute those responsible for fires caused by fireworks.
