Dr. George Tyndall, USC gynecologist accused of sex abuse, found dead at Los Angeles home
SUMMARY: Dr. George Tyndall, the former University of Southern California (USC) gynecologist accused of sexually abusing hundreds of women, has been found dead at his home in Los Angeles. Tyndall, who was 76, was found deceased in bed and is believed to have died of natural causes. In March 2021, USC agreed to a $852 million settlement with over 700 women who accused Tyndall of sexual misconduct. When combined with an earlier settlement, USC will pay out over $1 billion for claims against Tyndall. Prior to his death, Tyndall was facing criminal charges but had pleaded not guilty.

How Austin enforces its fireworks ordinance
SUMMARY: Since Austin adopted its fireworks ordinance, the storage, use, and handling of fireworks within city limits became illegal. Initially, the Austin Fire Department (AFD) managed compliance, deploying engine and truck companies to reported violations. However, this approach burdened the emergency response system and 911 dispatchers. In the late 90s, the city shifted to a 311 hotline for reporting non-emergency violations, transitioning responsibility to the Austin Police Department (APD). Despite this change, AFD maintains a street presence, and the Fire Marshal's Office continues to issue citations and prosecute those responsible for fires caused by fireworks.
