In the late 90s, the city shifted to a 311 hotline for reporting non-emergency violations, transitioning responsibility to the Austin Police Department (APD). Despite this change, AFD maintains a street presence, and the Fire Marshal's Office continues to issue citations and prosecute those responsible for fires caused by fireworks.
