Easy Tiger plans to shutter its beer garden in East Austin
SUMMARY: Austin-based company Easy Tiger is closing its 1501 E. Seventh St. location in April due to weather challenges and increased costs. The decision to shutter the space that opened in 2021 was made by founder David Norman. The East Austin store had outdoor seating and a large interior space but did not have an artisanal bakery. The company is whittling its store count to two as it prepares to close this location. The challenges faced by local businesses in 2023, including record-setting heat, contributed to the decision. Easy Tiger is known for its bakeries and beer gardens.

Austin Animal Center shuts down intake, says shelter at ‘crisis point,’ memo says
SUMMARY: The Austin Animal Center (AAC) is closing animal intake to the public due to reaching critical capacity, as stated in a memo from AAC Chief Animal Services Officer Don Bland. Effective July 2, the center will stop accepting owner-surrendered and healthy stray animals but will continue to take in animals that pose a public safety risk or have life-threatening conditions. Currently, AAC is dealing with an influx, averaging 14 more animals weekly than it can find homes for. To address this, they are using private boarding facilities and working with foster and rescue organizations, while also waiving adoption fees. For assistance, residents should contact 311. Intake will reopen once appropriate kennel space is available.
