SUMMARY: A federal appeals court in New Orleans ruled that eight employers challenging certain federal insurance requirements aren't mandated to provide no-cost preventive care for specific services. This affects coverage for HIV prevention and some cancer screenings. The ruling, limited to the eight employers, doesn't apply nationwide. The 5th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals found these requirements unconstitutional as they were established by a body not appointed by the president or confirmed by the Senate. Issues remain unresolved, and further reviews are expected. Some preventive care services, like mammography and cervical cancer screening, remain covered without out-of-pocket costs.
