Former Uvalde School Police Chief Pete Arredondo Indicted Two Years After Robb Elementary Mass Shooting
SUMMARY: Former Uvalde school district police chief Pete Arredondo, who managed the flawed response to the May 2022 Robb Elementary School shooting, has been arrested on 10 felony child endangerment counts. After a grand jury’s indictment, Arredondo was released on a $10,000 bond. Former officer Adrian Gonzales also faced indictment. Families of the 19 students and two teachers killed in the shooting had long demanded accountability. Police took over an hour to confront the gunman despite nearly 400 officers being present. A Department of Justice report cited failures in coordination, training, and protocol execution. A $2 million settlement was reached with the victims’ families last month.

Supreme Court to rule on Trump Immunity
SUMMARY: The Supreme Court is concluding its term unusually late, meeting into early July, with a highly anticipated decision pending. The case concerns whether former President Donald Trump is immune from prosecution related to the January 6, 2021, Capitol riot. This case was argued on April 25, and its delayed resolution impacts the potential for Trump to stand trial before the November election. The timing of the court’s decision is crucial, as the delay means Trump is unlikely to face trial before the election, regardless of the ruling’s outcome. (© 2024 The Associated Press.
