Gov. Abbott Orders Texas Flags to Half-Staff in Honor of Lives Lost in Israel
SUMMARY: Texas Governor Greg Abbott has ordered Texas flags to be lowered to half-staff to honor the lives lost during the “heinous acts of war” carried out by Hamas against Israel and its people, which also killed American citizens. The flags will remain at half-staff until sunset on October 14. The Governor’s letter, sent to Texas DPS, requests that flags on all state buildings, facilities, and offices be lowered as a sign of honor and respect. Abbott and the First Lady extend their prayers to those affected by the attacks.

SUMMARY: The Austin School of Furniture Foundation (ASFF), driven by creativity and passion, has achieved nonprofit status, enabling it to expand its woodworking programs. ASFF Managing Director Austin Waldo shared that the school, established in 2018, offers classes from beginner woodworking to fine furniture making. Before the nonprofit designation, community classes were offered on a pay-what-you-can basis. The new status allows ASFF to grow its programs, including scholarships and tool stipends, and receive tax-exempt donations.
