SUMMARY: Attorney Ronald Lewis, 77, has been arrested and charged with smuggling drugs into the Harris County Jail after being found in possession of papers believed to be soaked in drugs. The investigation began after the deaths of two inmates and several others experiencing adverse reactions to drugs in June. Authorities have received information that Lewis has been bringing in papers soaked in K2, PCP, and “Spice” when visiting inmates, for which he was paid $250 to $500 per inmate. This has led to a total of 154 drug-soaked papers being confiscated. The Sheriff’s office is working towards upgrading Lewis’ charges to murder if the drugs that caused the deaths originated from him. Authorities also anticipate more charges for others involved in the smuggling. The jail is implementing measures to prevent prohibited substances from entering, including using drug dogs and making attorneys use jail paper for client communications. Lewis has been released on a $15,000 bond.
