The pit, created by a collapsed lava tube, is one of over 200 such features on the moon. Researchers used radar measurements from NASA’s Lunar Reconnaissance Orbiter, comparing them with Earth’s lava tubes. Their findings were published in a scientific journal. The research was conducted by Associated Press and reported on July 15, 2024.
