Houston police believe alcohol played a factor in deadly crash where driver lost control on I-45 North Freeway at Quitman

SUMMARY: A suspected DWI driver died after losing control and hitting a wall in north Houston around 11:30 p.m. Sunday on the I-45 North Freeway near Quitman Street. The driver, operating a Chevy Cruze, struck a wall and then was hit by a tow truck. He was transported to a hospital where he was pronounced dead. The tow truck driver did not sustain serious injuries. While investigating the scene, an officer was hit by another impaired driver but was not injured. The investigation into the fatal crash is ongoing.

79-year-old dies after single-vehicle crash

SUMMARY: The Austin Police Department identified 79-year-old Gerald Farcus as the victim of a fatal single-vehicle crash on June 28 in south Austin. The accident occurred around 10 a.m. on the 1200 block of West Ben White Boulevard Service Road. Farcus was transported to a local hospital where he was later pronounced dead. This marks Austin's 37th fatal crash in 2024, resulting in 38 fatalities.
