Houston Texas storm damage: Destructive storms leave path of damage
SUMMARY: Severe thunderstorms hit the Houston area, causing damage to high-rise buildings, downed trees, power outages, and four reported deaths. The storm left broken glass, fallen debris, and downed street lights in its wake. Buildings, including the downtown Hyatt hotel, suffered damage, with guests and staff seeking shelter. A smaller building lost an entire brick wall. ABC13 Chief Meteorologist Travis Herzog described the storm as hurricane-like in intensity, turning the sky black before sunset. Chief Forecaster David Tillman called it the worst non-hurricane windstorm in Houston in 25 years. The storm resulted in significant destruction, but no injuries at the Hyatt hotel.
