‘Mass casualty event’ halted after man makes threats towards Tesla event

SUMMARY: Paul Ryan Overeem of Orlando, Florida, was arrested for making online threats against Tesla's Cybertruck delivery event. The threats were made on Instagram, including phrases like “I plan on killing people.” Law enforcement confirmed Overeem's vehicle was sighted in Austin and he was charged with a terrorist threat. Overeem has no ties to the Austin area. According to the arrest report, law enforcement has reason to believe Overeem arrived in Austin to potentially carry out his threats. The threats mentioned a “mass casualty event.” Overeem was charged with a third degree felony for the terrorist threat.
