NASA shares first asteroid samples delivered by spacecraft – NBC 5 Dallas-Fort Worth

SUMMARY: NASA has showcased its first-ever asteroid samples, which were collected by the Osiris-Rex spacecraft from the carbon-rich asteroid named Bennu. The samples were dropped off in a capsule during a flyby of Earth last month. Scientists expect at least a cupful of rocks, significantly more than what Japan brought back from previous missions. However, the main sample chamber has yet to be opened, so the exact quantity is still uncertain. Initial analysis has revealed black dust and particles on the outside edge of the chamber, as well as evidence of carbon and water in the asteroid rubble.

SUMMARY: In Austin, using or selling fireworks is illegal without a permit from AFD Special Events, costing $200. Permits for aerial displays require a 30-day notice, while flame acts need 14 days. Necessary documents include a site plan, pyrotechnic operator license, fireworks list, and insurance. State Fire Marshal's Office permit is also needed. Non-emergency numbers should be used to report illegal fireworks. Allowed without a permit are Snake, Glow Worms, Smoke Devices, Wire Sparklers, and Trick Noisemakers.
