Police: Plainfield, Illinois man killed Muslim child, injured mother in stabbing motivated by religious hate

SUMMARY: A man in Plainfield, Illinois, stabbed a 6-year-old child to death and critically injured a woman because they were Muslim, according to the Will County Sheriff’s Office. The suspect, 71-year-old Joseph Czuba, attacked the boy and his mother with a military-style knife, stabbing the child 26 times. Czuba has been charged with first-degree murder, attempted first-degree murder, and two counts of committing a hate crime. The victims’ father believes the attack was motivated by hatred towards Palestinians, and the Council on American-Islamic Relations calls it an act of hatred. The mother is recovering in hospital, and Czuba is in custody awaiting his court appearance.

SUMMARY: The Austin School of Furniture Foundation (ASFF), driven by creativity and passion, has achieved nonprofit status, enabling it to expand its woodworking programs. ASFF Managing Director Austin Waldo shared that the school, established in 2018, offers classes from beginner woodworking to fine furniture making. Before the nonprofit designation, community classes were offered on a pay-what-you-can basis. The new status allows ASFF to grow its programs, including scholarships and tool stipends, and receive tax-exempt donations. Student Adam Baumeister appreciates the variety of tools used in classes, enhancing his learning experience.
