Texas sex assault survivors worry Acevedo hire will ‘undermine’ event meant to recognize them

The apology is part of a 2022 settlement with survivors, in response to numerous mishandled sex assault cases in the Austin Police Department. The leaders' decision to hire former APD chief Art Acevedo to a new position focused on the police department has caused concerns due to the problems that occurred during by his tenure with APD. Despite the establishment of policy changes in the APD over the years, there are some in the city council and community who disagree that Acevedo is the right person for the appointed role. Wild Joe Munoz generally approves of Acevedo, saying that only time will tell to see the outcome from this position.
