SUMMARY: Ahead of the 2024 Paris Olympics, athletes will undergo trial runs, drug tests, and sex evaluations, which some consider discriminatory. World Aquatics has banned transgender swimmer Lia Thomas from competing. Despite mandatory sex testing being banned in 1999, gender identity verification remains at the discretion of each sport's governing body. The International Olympic Committee recommends a 10-step framework for eligibility, but federations are not required to follow it, potentially affecting transgender and intersex athletes.
