SUMMARY: Sheri Johnson was born with a rare heart defect called transposition of the great arteries. This condition caused her lips and fingertips to turn purple due to a lack of oxygen in her blood. She had her first heart surgery at the age of 5 and faced the constant fear that her heart could give out at any moment. In 2021, Johnson underwent a heart transplant and received a new heart. Now, she is able to live a more active life and is training for the 2024 Transplant Games of America to honor her heart donor.
