YouTube Music workers laid off after Cognizant contract ends
SUMMARY: A contract between Cognizant and Alphabet ended, resulting in layoffs of YouTube Music workers. The workers will be given paid time to explore new roles within the organization. In April 2023, the YouTube Music Content Operations Team won a union election. The Austin City Council passed a resolution in support of the laid off workers. Google stated that it was a routine contract end, denying suggestions of premature termination. The workers believe the layoffs may be retaliation for their union activities. The workers had to quickly leave City Hall to retrieve their belongings from the office after being laid off.
