SUMMARY: Chief Doug Bal of the Galveston Police Department reported an incident on September 25th involving off-duty Officer Rivas at an apartment complex swimming pool on Jones Drive. An altercation with several people raised concerns about Officer Rivas's conduct. The department initiated an internal investigation and placed Rivas on administrative leave with pay, as mandated by Texas Civil Service law. They are seeking public assistance and any footage related to the incident. Sergeant Marcus Morrison is handling the investigation, with cooperation from the Galveston County District Attorney's office. The department aims for transparency and adherence to policies and state law.

On the morning of June 26, the administration of the Galveston Police Department became aware of an incident involving an off-duty police officer that occurred at the Island Bay apartment complex on Tuesday, June 25, at approximately 7 p.m.

Officer Rivas was working as an off-duty security officer for the apartment complex when an altercation occurred between Rivas and visitors at the complex pool. The department is still gathering information and investigating what happened. Still, the Chief of Police has several concerns regarding the off-duty officer's involvement in the incident and the officer's conduct.

Per Texas Civil Service Law, Officer Rivas was immediately placed on administrative leave while the internal investigation is ongoing. The department is also working with the Galveston County District Attorney's Office.

Arlington police seek surveillance video of drive-by shooting that injured 19, 5-year-old

SUMMARY: A drive-by shooting occurred at around 3:00 a.m. in Arlington, hitting three people inside a home on Tennessee Trail. Among the victims were a 5-year-old girl, shot in the hand, and a 19-year-old man, shot multiple times and hospitalized. A 20-year-old man was grazed by a bullet but did not seek medical treatment. The five occupants of the house claim they don't know why they were targeted or who is responsible. Police found multiple shell casings and are investigating, seeking surveillance footage and public tips to identify the shooter. The 5-year-old's injuries are not life-threatening.

Arlington police are continuing to investigate a drive-by shooting that injured a 19-year-old man and a 5-year-old girl over the weekend.
