All Fort Worth ISD school libraries closed while district reexamines books on shelves

SUMMARY: Fort Worth ISD students have returned to school, but all of the libraries are closed as the district reviews every book on campus. This comes after three controversial LGBT+ books, including one with explicit images, were found in elementary and middle school libraries. The district admits there has not been a consistent review process and the director of library services is no longer in that position. The district is currently reviewing over 100 books, most of which are sexual in nature. Recent legislation requires school districts to obtain written consent from parents for students to access sexually relevant materials in libraries.

Fort Worth ISD says the person in charge of the catalog at its school libraries has been reassigned. All of the libraries are shut down right now while the district does a full assessment of the books on their shelves. It comes after three books had to be removed before the school year started.

Austin Fire Department arrived first, followed by the Austin Police Department (APD) half an hour later, declaring both individuals dead. The incident is under investigation as the 31st homicide of the year, with no confirmation whether it was a murder-suicide. Victims were a man and a woman, yet their identities remain undisclosed. Residents are terrified due to frequent criminal activities, noting multiple aggravated assaults, burglaries, and thefts in the area over the past year, which increases their fear for safety.

Two people were found dead at an apartment complex in Austin and the Austin Police Department is investigating it as a homicide.
