Austin police searching for armed burglar | FOX 7 Austin

He has been seen entering homes and was once armed with a knife. The break-ins started last Friday around 5 PM on Chadam Avenue. Longtime resident Mary Garza mentioned how the area experienced high crime rates in the 90s but had since quieted down until recent months, where there's been an uptick in criminal activities. Austin Police report two homicides, over 20 robberies, nearly 60 aggravated assaults, and 99 burglaries in the Windsor Park area in the past year.

Behind the scenes look at Alley Theatre’s Summer Chills production
SUMMARY: For 30 years, Houston’s Alley Theater has combated summer heat with “Summer Chills,” featuring a production each year. This July, Agatha Christie’s “And Then There Were None” takes the stage, with meticulous scenic preparations underway. Scenic artist Christy Debaker describes creating realistic sets, including lightweight polyurethane foam stones and a spooky skyscape backdrop. This initiative supports the resident acting company year-round. The play, originally “Ten Little Indians,” centers on ten individuals invited to a home, unraveling in a suspenseful mystery where all meet grim fates. The Alley Theater’s 14th-floor workshop ensures every detail is handcrafted.

We the Texans: Public Access to Government
SUMMARY: The discussion focused on Texas' open records law, which is over 50 years old and aims to enhance government transparency following past scandals. First Amendment advocates argue that while some agencies comply diligently, others misuse the law to keep the public uninformed. The conversation is part of the Texas Tribune's project on democracy in Texas, addressing the challenges and potential solutions in implementing the Texas Public Information Act (TPIA). Panelists included professionals from media and legal backgrounds who highlighted issues such as delays, the overuse of exemptions, the need for stronger enforcement, and the importance of public access to government records. Effective communication, training, and potentially adjusting the legislative framework for better compliance were suggested as improvements. The event also emphasized the importance of public participation and utilizing available resources for open records requests.
