How a problem at Lake Livingston Dam could impact water for millions in Houston

Published

on

www.youtube.com – KPRC 2 Click2Houston – 2024-06-29 22:06:35

SUMMARY: The Trinity River Authority is monitoring the Lake Livingston Dam due to potential damage from recent rain and flooding. Although there’s no immediate risk, any failure could severely impact the Greater Houston area. Lake Livingston, the third-largest lake in Texas, holds 185 quadrillion gallons of water and supplies 60% of Houston’s daily water needs. A dam failure would disrupt water supply and pressure for residents across Houston, Harris County, and three surrounding counties. Despite other water sources like Lake Houston, they wouldn’t suffice. Currently, there’s no danger, but the situation remains under review.

A Lake Livingston Dam is now being watched for a “potential failure.”
The Trinity River Authority, which oversees Lake Livingston, the dam and the Trinity River, shared the declaration on Friday.
