Cook Children’s sues state of Texas over Medicaid contracts
SUMMARY: Cook Children's Health Care System is suing Texas over a plan excluding it from vital healthcare programs, impacting 125,000 North Texas families. Cook Children's argues that the Texas Health and Human Services' decision to award Medicaid funding to UnitedHealthcare, Aetna, and Blue Cross and Blue Shield instead is detrimental. Families, like that of 2-year-old Zachariah Sud Alin, who depends on specialized care from Cook Children's, face stress over switching health plans and doctors. Cook Children's has filed a lawsuit, an appeal, and requested a court-issued temporary restraining order to block the state's decision, emphasizing the need for continuity in healthcare.
Texas Health and Human Services decided to not extend a Medicaid contract to Cook Children's Health Plan and other local plans. The decision would effect nearly 125,000 North Texans.
