Council member Mackenzie Kelly speaks on Austin’s public safety, fire prevention concerns | FOX 7 Au

SUMMARY: District Six City Council member Mackenzie Kelly discussed two major developments in the Austin City Council this week. First, she mentioned that Chief Joseph Chacon has decided to retire from the Austin Police Department (APD), which was a surprise to her. She also expressed that morale in the APD is already low, but Chief Chacon's departure is not the cause of it. She highlighted the importance of officers being able to retire after dedicating years of service to the city. Secondly, she discussed the city's declaration of a disaster in response to fire danger in Austin. She explained that this declaration is a preemptive measure to ensure the city can request resources and funding reimbursement in case of a wildfire. Kelly advised citizens to be prepared by packing a go bag, being mindful of the environment, and reporting any fire they see.

It's been a busy week for the Austin City Council. From a big announcement on personnel changes at the Austin Police Department, to major steps to address fire danger. District six council member Mackenzie Kelly joined FOX 7 Austin's Mike Warren to discuss.

When will Hurricane Beryl hit Texas?

Published

on

www.youtube.com – FOX 4 Dallas-Fort Worth – 2024-07-04 12:37:25

SUMMARY: Hurricane Barrel, currently a Category 3 storm, is impacting the Cayman Islands, where hurricane warnings are in place. It affected Jamaica previously and weakened due to wind shear. The National Hurricane Center’s forecast remains largely unchanged, predicting a landfall in far south Texas. Barrel is expected to weaken to a Category 2 hurricane as it moves across the Yucatan Peninsula and into a tropical storm over the southern Gulf. Warm Gulf waters might strengthen it back to a Category 1 hurricane before a possible early week landfall. Future paths include potential impacts on North Texas, with the heaviest rains predicted for central and far south Texas.

New models show that Hurricane Beryl is likely to make landfall in Texas next week. FOX 4 meteorologist Kylie Capps takes a look at the storm’s path and the possible impact it could have on North Texas.
