SUMMARY: Over 23 school districts in North Texas, including Dallas ISD, have started their new school year. Dallas ISD, with over 140,000 students, is facing staffing shortages with around 70 positions still needing to be filled. The district is also struggling to comply with a new legislation, House Bill Three, which requires an armed guard at every campus by September 1st. Dallas ISD needs more than 160 officers to meet this requirement. Superintendent Stephanie Salazar believes that safety involves more than just having armed guards and emphasizes the importance of urgency and response. Forward ISD in Fort Worth is also working to comply with the new state law and is partnering with local police departments to ensure the necessary personnel are in place. Additionally, both districts are dealing with funding challenges and the impact of the governor's school voucher program.

More North Texas students are back in school. The bells rang Monday morning at 23 more school districts in our area including Dallas ISD and Fort Worth ISD. The superintendents of those large districts say school security is top of mind this year because of a new state law. #DallasISD #FortWorthISD #ready4school #backtoschool

SUMMARY: During a deadly shooting at a Fort Worth car wash on July 4th, a bystander's intervention might have prevented further casualties. The altercation began when 27-year-old Canard Murphy, who had prior domestic violence issues, fought with a relative of his 11-month-old daughter's mother at a gathering. Murphy pulled out a rifle and started shooting, killing three innocent bystanders: two young girls and 42-year-old Terell Win. Murphy was ultimately shot by an unknown person, causing him to drop the rifle, and another individual secured it. Murphy faces multiple capital murder charges and is currently hospitalized, delaying his booking into jail.

Court documents obtained by FOX 4 reveal more about what led to a Fort Worth shooting on the Fourth of July that killed three people, including a 4-year-old and 1-year-old.
