Debate’s impact on Biden, Trump moving forward
SUMMARY: In the first presidential debate between President Joe Biden and former President Donald Trump, concerns about Biden’s cognitive and physical state were highly apparent, leading to worries within the Democratic Party. Trump’s performance, although marked by dodged questions and inaccuracies, did not significantly alter public perception due to his established persona. Analysts, including a political scientist, indicated that Biden’s display reinforced Republican talking points and could impact undecided voters in swing states. Despite internal debates within the Democratic party about Biden’s viability, removing him would require his consent. Overall, the debate was a contentious event with both candidates facing criticism, but Biden’s frailty appeared more alarming.
President Joe Biden’s debate performance has some Democrats sounding alarm bells. SMU political scientist Matthew Wilson talks about the impact of the debate on President Biden and former president Donald Trump.

Texas congressman calls for Biden to step down as party’s presidential nominee | FOX 7 Austin
SUMMARY: A Democratic US Congressman from Austin, Lloyd Doggett, has become the first in his party to publicly call for President Biden to withdraw from the 2024 presidential race, citing concerns over Biden's debate performance and ability to defeat former President Trump. Doggett emphasized that many Democrats share his concerns privately, although he is the first to speak out publicly. Polls in his district show a strong preference for a new candidate. The debate has intensified scrutiny of Biden's age and capability, which Trump has also targeted. While Doggett did not specify alternative candidates, he believes a new contender would have a better chance in the upcoming election.
