Prime Minister declared the island a disaster area with a state of emergency for at least seven days, ordering curfews and evacuations in low-lying areas. Despite weakening from Category 5, Barrel's 140 mph winds pose a severe threat with potential for life-threatening storm surges, flooding, and damaging waves. The storm previously devastated several Caribbean islands, including St. Vincent, the Grenadines, and Grenada, destroying homes, buildings, and vital infrastructure. Barrel is expected to weaken further as it moves towards the Cayman Islands and Yucatan Peninsula.

Hurricane Beryl Update: Latest on storm’s path
SUMMARY: Barrel's eyewall is closely brushing the south coast of Jamaica but is not expected to make landfall as it parallels the coastline. Winds are at 140 mph, cementing its status as a Category 4 hurricane. Moving West-Northwest at 20 mph, Barrel will pass south of the Cayman Islands with strong tropical storm force winds. It's projected to weaken to a Category 2 before making landfall on the Yucatan Peninsula early Friday. After crossing the Yucatan, it may regain Category 1 strength in the Gulf of Mexico. There remains uncertainty if it will impact northern Mexico or the South Texas coast, particularly around Brownsville or Corpus Christi, by the weekend.
Hurricane Beryl is moving near Jamaica before heading west towards Mexico and possibly Texas. FOX 4's Dan Henry is tracking the storm.
