How to protect your yard from the extreme heat
SUMMARY: In this content, the speaker is discussing the effects of extreme heat on plants and how to handle it. They mention that yellow leaves or bleaching on the leaves are normal responses to heat and not necessarily signs of plants dying. They emphasize the importance of using a moisture meter to determine if plants need watering, as heat stress does not always indicate a need for water. The speaker also mentions the benefits of planting native adaptive plants and using techniques like cycle and soak and drip irrigation to promote deeper root growth. Finally, they mention upcoming classes at Rooted In, including one on rainwater harvesting.
Forget green yards. Many of us already have scorched yellow grass and trees with brown leaves. But have no fear. Horticulturist Patrick Dickinson from Rooted In Nursery and Garden Center in Prosper says there are still things you can do to protect your yard during triple-digit streaks.
