SUMMARY: Frustration is high in Houston, where over a million customers remain without power due to Barrel. Although CenterPoint Energy has restored power to around 40% of affected customers, the heat is causing discomfort for those still in the dark. The Houston Fire Department has reported an increase in carbon monoxide calls as people use generators to cool down. Efforts are ongoing to restore power quickly, with crews working around the clock and additional teams arriving from out of state. Cooling centers are operational, and food pantries are addressing the increased demand. CenterPoint hopes to provide more specific restoration timelines soon.

CenterPoint Energy, which services the area, says it has now restored power to roughly 1 million people affected by the storm. However, the lack of power in the heat is causing problems for those still not restored.

The fire occurred Friday afternoon while Pastor Paul David Taylor, who was inside preparing his sermon, managed to escape safely. Despite the extensive damage to the church offices, the sanctuary remained untouched. Pastor Taylor is optimistic about the future, noting most books in his office were saved and the building was deemed stable but needs a new roof.
