SUMMARY: On May 28th, Damiana and her family were enjoying a beach trip in Durant, Oklahoma. While waist-deep in the water, a shark attacked Damiana, seizing her hand. Her sister-in-law first saw a tan shadow in the water but didn't identify it as a shark. Damiana instinctively punched the shark in its face to fend it off. Her family, initially unaware of the shark's presence, helped her get to shore. A paramedic from a nearby family provided initial care. Damiana suffered severed tendons but did not lose any fingers. She advises beachgoers to stay alert, especially during dusk and dawn when shark activity increases.

What’s going on with the Lake Livingston Dam? KPRC 2 digs into the problem, finds answers on the fix

Published

www.youtube.com – KPRC 2 Click2Houston – 2024-07-03 19:00:30

SUMMARY: This report highlights two significant issues discovered along the Trinity River, affecting the dam and surrounding infrastructure. The first issue, found in May, involves erosion around a westward training wall, leading to partial failure. The second, discovered last week, involves severe erosion at the base of a support structure near the dam’s apron, prompting federal emergency alerts. In response, the Trinity River Authority is taking three major actions: lowering Lake Livingston’s water level, moving 100 truckloads of rock daily, and pumping concrete for essential repairs. These measures aim to ensure the dam’s safety before any tropical storms hit, with final repairs expected by month’s end.

Nearly a week after the Trinity River Authority declared a “potential failure watch” for the Lake Livingston Dam, we’re learning about the damage done during flooding earlier this year.
