SUMMARY: A new asphalt layer covers County Road 245, but a driveway southwest of Florence still marks where a crime scene took place. Elaine Edings from the Florence library remembers her friend Diana Lyn Pier, a beloved community volunteer known as the town's grandmother for her dedication to children's reading. Joshua Anthony Gilbreth is charged with Pier's murder, with an insanity defense strategy revealed. The trial begins in late July, focusing on both guilt and mental competency. The Williamson County DA plans to bring expert witnesses to counter the insanity plea. Librarian Jean Flavhive hopes for healing and justice as the community mourns Diana Pier.

The trial for Joshua Gilbreath is set for next month, and the insanity defense also sets up the courtroom battle, which is rarely seen in Williamson County. Gilbreath is charged with murdering an elderly woman back in August 2022.
