SUMMARY: According to new research, brain fog, breathing issues, and trouble sleeping are symptoms experienced by individuals with long COVID. The cause of these symptoms has now been identified as the persistence of the virus in the gastrointestinal tract, which releases inflammatory mediators that impair the absorption of certain amino acids important for serotonin production. Serotonin is a neurotransmitter that affects mood and other functions. The findings offer hope for potential therapies, including medications that increase serotonin levels. Additionally, individuals may try consuming foods rich in the precursors of serotonin as a natural approach. However, further studies are needed for conclusive evidence.

According to new research, brain fog, breathing issues, and trouble sleeping are some symptoms people suffer from with long COVID. The cause of these symptoms has now been identified. Dr. Pradeep Kumar, with Austin Gastroenterology, joins us with more.
