Many North Texans still without power after storm

SUMMARY: Hundreds of thousands of customers are without power following severe storms in North Texas, with over 290,000 outages in the Encore service area, mainly in Dallas County. The storms knocked down trees and power lines, causing extensive power outages that began early yesterday and continue today. Dallas County Judge Clay Jenkins declared a disaster during the cleanup. Encore officials indicate it will take days to restore power, with crews working 16-hour shifts. Traffic lights are out, creating hazardous driving conditions. Encore advises checking on vulnerable neighbors and avoiding downed power lines. Power restoration is expected mostly by Friday, with harder-hit areas by Saturday.

Power outages from Tuesday's storms are still impacting hundreds of thousands of people. But Oncor says its crews have made significant progress clearing debris and repairing power lines.
