SUMMARY: The nonprofit DNA Doe Project, based in California, is dedicated to identifying John and Jane Does across the country. They have volunteers, including some in Austin, who work to bring closure to grieving families who don't know what happened to their loved ones. Investigative genetic genealogist Rhonda Kevorkian says law enforcement often contacts them for cases they've been working on for a long time. The project relies on donations for funding and uses DNA extraction and whole genome sequencing to build family trees and find common ancestors. They are currently working on two cases in Travis County, Texas, to identify unidentified individuals found in 2020 and 2021. The DNA process can take hours or months, depending on the matches that come up. People who have taken a DNA test before can upload their results to Family Tree DNA or GedMatch to help with comparisons. The focus is on treating all unidentified individuals as someone important.

There are more than 50,000 unidentified sets of human remains in the U.S. That is according to a genealogy nonprofit called the DNA Doe Project. In this week's Missing in Texas, Angela Shen takes a look at their mission, as well as two cases in Travis County.

When will Hurricane Beryl hit Texas?

Published

on

www.youtube.com – FOX 4 Dallas-Fort Worth – 2024-07-04 12:37:25

SUMMARY: Hurricane Barrel, currently a Category 3 storm, is impacting the Cayman Islands, where hurricane warnings are in place. It affected Jamaica previously and weakened due to wind shear. The National Hurricane Center’s forecast remains largely unchanged, predicting a landfall in far south Texas. Barrel is expected to weaken to a Category 2 hurricane as it moves across the Yucatan Peninsula and into a tropical storm over the southern Gulf. Warm Gulf waters might strengthen it back to a Category 1 hurricane before a possible early week landfall. Future paths include potential impacts on North Texas, with the heaviest rains predicted for central and far south Texas.

New models show that Hurricane Beryl is likely to make landfall in Texas next week. FOX 4 meteorologist Kylie Capps takes a look at the storm’s path and the possible impact it could have on North Texas.
